Atlanta Braves select Bainbridge Island's JR Ritchie in MLB draft

Bainbridge Island's JR Ritchie made a promise to Atlanta Braves fans Sunday night after the defending World Series champions selected the right-handed pitcher 35th overall in the Major League Baseball draft.

"They are getting the hardest worker in this draft," Ritchie said during an interview with MLB Network. "Nobody is going to outwork me. I'm going to bring home another title to Atlanta."

Ritchie, 19, was the fifth high school pitcher selected, going to Atlanta as a Competitive Balance Round A pick after the first round. He's the highest draft pick from Kitsap County since North Kitsap's Aaron Sele went 23rd to the Boston Red Sox in 1991.
