JACKSONVILLE, AL- Kent State's bid for a sweep of Jacksonville State was thwarted on Sunday as the Gamecocks took the finale, 5-2.
The Gamecocks used the long ball and were the beneficiaries of a pair of reviews in a three-run first. After an infield single held up upon review, so did an opposite field home run for Derrick Johnson Junior. The righty sliced a ball down the line that curved around the foul pole. It highlighted a three-run first inning for the Gamecocks.
The Flashes got runs back in the second and the third. Kent State took advantage of a walk and an error to push Bo Shinkle across the plate.
